Primary Purpose:
Assists program directors with budgeting, purchasing, and monitoring of state and federal programs.
Education / Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or 4 years of accounting or related experience.
Experience / Other Requirements
- One year of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Financial experience in school business or another governmental entity is preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of applicable district policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to manage budgets.
- Microsoft Excel and Word proficient.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinates with program staff in the development of state program budgets.
- Processes requisitions for the program in accordance with procedure, policy, regulation, law, and good practice.
- Compiles reports and spreadsheets for evaluating and maintaining data.
- Collaborates with Human Resources and the specific State Program Director to verify staffing assignments.
- Reviews timesheets for part-time employees and extra duty pay.
- Assists with the collection of data for program compliance.
- Reconciles Time & Effort with the payroll department when needed.
- Prepares monthly reconciliations, journals, and other reports as directed by the Budget Director and Executive Director of Accounting and Finance.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
- Works closely with all staff to facilitate the educational process by accurately and efficiently conducting school business.
- Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and serves as a role model for all District staff.
- Reviews current procedures with suggestions for increased efficiency and accuracy.
Professional Growth and Development
- Develops needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
- Continues updating skills through finance and accounting classes.
- Maintains current knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance, and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
