Primary Purpose:
Delivers small group dyslexia intervention services at CISD campuses using the district’s approved dyslexia program in accordance with the Texas Education Agency dyslexia program descriptors. Serves as an instructional resource person in the improvement of campus dyslexia programs.
Education / Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.
- Endorsement or certification as Reading Specialist, Certified Academic Language Therapist, Multisensory Structured Language Therapist or comparable experience (preferred).
- Teachers must obtain ESL Certification within one year of employment.
- Bilingual certification preferred.
Experience / Other Requirements
- Three years of teaching in reading/language arts.
- Previous experience in providing reading interventions.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Knowledge of critical, evidence-based components of dyslexia instruction as outlined in The Dyslexia Handbook
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and fidelity of programming.
- Knowledge of school systems, classroom management, and instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of IEP processes.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides support services for students identified with dyslexia using the district’s approved multisensory, intensive, direct phonics instruction program.
- Provide instruction using district-approved, evidence-based curriculum and instructional practices.
- Serves as a resource person by providing teachers with effective strategies designed tomeet the needs of students identified with Dyslexia.
- Maintains record keeping on students served for program evaluation purposes.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and data.
- Collaborates with district Dyslexia Coordinators to maintain a district and campus visionfor program improvement.
- Provides support for parent involvement and other campus initiatives.
- Participates in professional growth activities to include monthly team trainings/meetings with Dyslexia Coordinators for continued professional development regarding best practices.
- Presents professional development on dyslexia and related disorders.
- Keeps teachers/parents/case managers and administrators informed of student
- Assists campus and district team in program evaluation.
- Promotes evidence-based reading instruction by sharing current information and other
- Attends appropriate CISD instructional meetings.
- Contributes to student’s Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with information regarding placement, growth, and progress within dyslexia programming.
- Serves on ARD and other campus committees as needed.
- Maintains a positive and effective relationship with staff and supervisors.
- Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth bythe district for records maintenance, and learning the records retention schedule.
