Primary Purpose

Provide design leadership and content creation support that advances the District's brand, marketing campaigns, and storytelling efforts. The Communications Coordinator produces high-quality visual and written content across print, digital, and social platforms, ensuring consistency with District brand standards and alignment with the strategic priorities of the Communications Department.

Education / Certification

  1. Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field
  2. Equivalent combination of education and professional experience may be considered

Special Knowledge / Skills

  1. Strong proficiency in industry-standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; familiarity with Canva and similar platforms)
  2. Demonstrated ability to design for print, digital, social, and large-format applications
  3. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to tone, clarity, and audience
  4. Working knowledge of brand standards, typography, layout principles, and visual hierarchy
  5. Familiarity with photo and video editing tools (Adobe Premiere, Lightroom, or comparable)
  6. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
  7. Strong collaboration skills and a service-oriented mindset
  8. Working knowledge of accessibility standards for digital content (ADA, WCAG)

Experience

  1. Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in graphic design, content creation, marketing, or a related field
  2. Portfolio demonstrating range across print, digital, and social platforms required

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Graphic Design & Visual Content

  1. Design high-quality graphics and visual content for District marketing campaigns, publications, events, and digital platforms, including flyers, brochures, infographics, social media graphics, banners, signage, advertisements, and presentations.
  2. Apply and uphold District brand standards across all design work, ensuring consistency in typography, color, voice, and visual identity.
  3. Develop branded templates and design assets that support consistent campus and department communications.
  4. Prepare files for print and digital production, coordinating with vendors as needed.

Content Creation & Storytelling

  1. Write, edit, and produce content that highlights student achievement, staff excellence, district programs, and community impact.
  2. Support the development of social media content, including graphics, short-form video, and written copy, in coordination with the Coordinator of Communications.
  3. Contribute to the District's storytelling efforts across print, digital, and social channels, in alignment with the District's narrative and messaging priorities.
  4. Assist with content development for District publications, newsletters, annual reports, and recognition materials.

Campaign & Project Support

  1. Support the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns (enrollment, recruitment, awareness, engagement) through coordinated visual and written content.
  2. Manage assigned design and content projects from intake through delivery, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and brand alignment are met.
  3. Participate in the Communications Project Request process to intake, prioritize, and deliver creative work across the District.
  4. Maintain organized digital asset libraries for graphics, photography, and templates.

Collaboration & Department Support

  1. Collaborate with the Multimedia Coordinator on visual storytelling, ensuring photography, video, and graphic design are cohesive across platforms.
  2. Coordinate with the Multimedia/Web Specialist on graphics that bridge web and campaign needs, while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
  3. Support the Coordinator of Communications with social-media-ready content and event graphics.
  4. Support District and special events (Opening of Schools, banquets, recognitions) with branded materials, signage, programs, and visual elements.
  5. Provide design support for crisis and time-sensitive communications when needed.

Brand Stewardship & Continuous Improvement

  1. Serve as a day-to-day steward of the District brand, providing guidance to staff and campuses on appropriate use of logos, templates, and visual standards.
  2. Stay current on design trends, content best practices, and emerging tools relevant to K–12 communications.
  3. Recommend improvements to design workflows, asset management, and content production processes.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

  3. Occasional evening and weekend work to support events and time-sensitive campaigns

  5. Occasional lifting and carrying of event materials, signage, and equipment (up to 25 lbs)
