What we’re looking for: A motivated and collaborative individual to join the City of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation department in the Operations division. Under close supervision, performs skilled and semiskilled work operating equipment and performing manual labor tasks, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

The responsibilities you’ll be trusted with:

- Operates a variety of tools and equipment and performs manual labor tasks to maintain safe Parks and City facilities as assigned; duties will vary according to job assignment.
- Mow parkland, green belts and other city property using reel and rotary mowers.
- Performs skilled and semiskilled construction, maintenance and general labor work.
- Troubleshoots repairs, install and maintains infrastructure of park facilities.
- Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and maintenance equipment, including but not limited to a truck, tractor, backhoe, excavators and mowers in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems and damage.
- Accurately completes assigned task in accordance with operating procedures.
- Completes daily logs and submits reports as required.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent, AND two (2) years work experience operating vehicles and motorized maintenance equipment.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain one (1) approved certification to be used by the Parks Department.
Required Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures
- Basic tools and equipment used in parks, facilities, grounds maintenance and construction.
- Traffic laws and rules for vehicle and equipment operation.
- Operation, maintenance and repair standards for motorized equipment and vehicles.
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Required Skill in:
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
- Identifying mechanical problems.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment, requires constant physical efforts for extended periods, and ability to safely lift, carry and move items weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.
- Must be able to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
