What we’re looking for: Motivated team players to join the two-time Texas Recreation and Park Society's Gold Medalist New Braunfels Parks and Recreation to be valued team members of DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center. Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial functions using proper cleaning methods and equipment after events and as needed; assists in maintaining the Das Rec, New Braunfels Recreation Center in a professional manner and in accordance with all safety regulations and established procedures.

The responsibilities you’ll be trusted with:

  • Assists in ensuring a professional, safe facility for the community.
  • Operates and uses a variety of equipment and products performing manual labor tasks to clean, maintain.
  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors in entire facility, taking care to work around equipment and patrons.
  • Cleans, scrubs, dusts, and disinfects entire facility, including but not limited to floors, walls, counter tops, doors, doorframes, windows, safety devices, signs, dividers, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and sinks and other fixtures.
  • Empties trash and recycling containers inside facility and replaces container liners; cleans containers when necessary; transports trash and recycling to designated area(s); removes paper and debris from the facility grounds and parking lots.
  • Cleans facility equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, trash cans, risers, kitchen equipment, and other equipment as requested or per maintenance schedule.
  • Picks up paper and debris from facility grounds and parking lots; maintains steps, sidewalks and ramps for safe use.
  • Maintains safety and organization of storage rooms; reports janitorial supply and equipment needs to supervisor.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, injuries, and maintenance or repair needs to supervisor.
  • Assists in setup and/or breakdown of equipment for events as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be sixteen (16) years of age AND one (1) year customer service/public interaction experience preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • ​​​​​Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Basic tools and equipment used in custodial maintenance.
  • City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions relative to custodial work and the use of cleaning agents.

Required Skill in:

  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written for positive relationships with employees, citizens, and the general public; ability to read and follow instruction effectively through written and/or verbal means.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.

Your work environment:

  • Work is performed both indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time, operating motorized or manually operated machines and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs
  • Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • Must be willing to assist patrons.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
