What we’re looking for: Under general supervision, assists in coordinating aquatic programs and facility operations to ensure customer satisfaction and safety for employees, members and visitors at DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center.

The responsibilities you’ll be trusted with:

  • Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community.
  • Prepares and assists in maintaining facilities including but not limited to DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center in a safe condition and to meet community needs; coordinated in alignment with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
  • Contributes to the hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluation and disciplinary action documentation of assigned staff.
  • Assists in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special events coordination and setup.
  • Assists in managing a variety of administrative activities including computer records, employee scheduling, accident/injury reports and work activity reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Opening and closing aquatic area at appropriate times
  • Conducting and recording water tests and performing weekly inspections on equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.
  • Assist in supervising swim lesson program, program registration and staff coaching.
  • Running audits and CPR skills checks.
  • Willingness to work shifts on short notice when needed.
  • Serving as a liaison between Lifeguard staff and the Aquatic Supervisor (report any problems).
  • Assisting with training and orientation of new staff, leading staff meetings and in-services.
  • Responsibilities of Lifeguards are also expected of Pool Managers.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year customer service/public interaction experience required, with aquatic facility experience preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Must possess: American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification is preferred.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Operational characteristics, services, and activities of aquatic facility management.
  • Principles and practices of excellent customer service.
  • Federal and State safety laws and regulations
  • Principles and practices of employee and recreation program supervision.

Required Skill in:

  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
  • Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Operating and maintaining a computer utilizing a variety of business software and communications equipment.
  • Effective, clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.

Your work environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment and all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet surfaces, pool maintenance equipment, infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule and irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
