As a member of the Engineering team the Controls Engineer is responsible to provide comprehensive technical support to Project Managers, Maintenance and Engineering with the electrical, control and safety detailed design and implementations. This includes project engineering involving equipment design, cost estimates, procurement, installation and commissioning of plant and production equipment. This would include new production equipment and modifications to existing equipment. Projects to be accomplished within monetary, plant production, and time constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical support to operations and maintenance including troubleshooting, programming, component specification and design for replacement.
  • Identify electrical and control related problematic equipment and implement PER’s and/or future capital projects.
  • Research current machinery electrical and control upgrades and new available applicable technologies to improve machine efficiency and product quality.
  • Cost estimating and funding justification for new electrical machinery upgrades.
  • Compile specifications for vendors and contractors for machinery upgrades, plus coordination with suppliers including generating purchase requisitions, etc.
  • Provide detailed electrical design and drawings for both maintenance upgrades and new machinery, including design and programming of the electrical, control systems and control modifications.
  • Coordination with project managers to implement the electrical part of projects.
  • Provide comprehensive technical support to maintenance technicians and sustain uptime on production equipment, equipment maintenance issues to resolve and prevent reoccurrence. Recommend and implement equipment design changes.
  • Assist with manpower planning for upgrades and maintenance.
  • Direct supervision of outside contractor tradespersons and service technicians on plant maintenance projects and equipment upgrades/installations.
  • Ensure all work history data is captured through CMMS.
  • Perform Preventive and Predictive Maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Experience
  • Experience with the electrical design and control systems, operation and maintenance of web handling equipment, bulk materials handling, pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • 2-5 years experience in an Industrial setting.
  • Experience with the design, operation and maintenance of analog, digital control systems, PLC programming and drive systems.
  • Extensive knowledge in Siemens controls. S7-1500, TIA Portal and Starter preferred.
  • Proven communication and project management skills.
  • Equipment safety devices and safeguarding methods.
  • Arc Flash and electrical work safety.
  • Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to recommend and articulate process improvements and required changes.
